About
So, you want to know more huh? Alrighty then.
The short version of the story is: I just really like the idea of having a website! Its a fun way to learn a thing or two, and I’m the type of nerd that’s amused by this sort of thing.
If you wanna hear the long version for some reason, buckle up:
When I was a kid, the internet was this massive breeding ground for people playing around. Dumb ideas, collections of small whatchamacallits, overeager plans that never eventuated, it felt like a massive playground! Someone would find a site dedicated to the colour purple, and that was considered a must-see site for some reason. It was that kind of time. It felt like a mini expedition every time you went to a new site! Now, that could just be modern cynicism & nostalgia romanticising things, but it was, at the very least, quite different.
Over time though, It felt like the web got… Smaller. If you had to guess, how many sites do you regularly visit a week these days? For most people I talk to, that number hovers around 3-5. And even then, It feels like that number gets smaller every couple of years. “The Internet” feels more and more like a handful of big company storefronts, rather than the collection of smaller communities. Not to mention the competitiveness of it all! Never before has the results of a post felt more important than the content. “Grow your audience!” “What’s your brand?” “Monetise your posts!” It drives me mad, honestly.
